Meditation is an ancient practise that involves focusing or clearing your mind using a combination of mental and physical techniques. It can be used to relax, reduce anxiety and stress, to improve mental clarity and emotional stability.

When I talk about meditation to people who have never tried it before I get all sorts of reactions. Some people are open minded and willing to try and some people would say - I don’t believe in “mumbo jumbo” :-)
On the outside, someone who’s meditating might not seem to be doing much other than breathing or repeating a sound or phrase. Inside their brain, however, it’s different story. Modern diagnostic and imaging techniques, show that meditation can positively affect your brain and mental health.
Meditation helps your brain to be healthier. According to World Health Organization scientific research deep relaxation during meditation helps neurons in the brain to work better and have a better connection with the nervous system. Brains of people who meditate regularly are healthier and less likely to show age-related loss of function. They also have a stronger ability to deal with and process negative emotions like fear, anger and grief.
I’ve experienced the positive effect of meditation myself. Some time ago I had a stroke and was semi-paralysed in my left arm. After medical treatment I still couldn’t use my arm properly. I turned to meditation in the hope that it may help to connect my brain with my nerves. I learned different techniques and methods to go deeper in my practise. Using ancient yogic practice pranayama that involves controlling and regulating breathing I balanced my life force energy. Breathing related to nerves and by calming my mind I’m regaining control over my arm.
Meditation has many different forms:
Meditation with or without an object, mindfulness meditation, guided meditation, walking meditation, mantra meditation, sound meditation and others. You can always choose what works for you best.
I am happy to share my techniques and methods of meditation and pranayama. Take your time and try something different, it helped me so much.
